Ok before i type the article.
this is an article my teacher in Social class showed me.And well i Want to know what you guys think,Was it a right thing to do,what could be done?to help cut down the population?

Parents who broke one-child policy see infant drowned

China has been shaken by one of the most horrifying cases of official infanticide in recent memory, in which family planners drowned a healthy baby in front of its parents.
The actions of the officials in the village of Caidian, in the central Hubie province, was carried out as part of China's one-child policy.But it has caused such a public outcry, the Hubei government has pledged to punish those responsible, a rarity in such cases.
The baby's mother, identified by Chinese newspaper as Mrs.Liu, was expecting her fourth child.Couples in the countryside, where 705 on China's people live, often have more than one child without punishment, despite the policy. But in Liu's case, she was forcibly injected with a saline solution to induce labour and kill the child by destroying the infant's nervous system.
The baby was born healthy,despite the injection.
Immediately after the birth,family planning officials ordered the father to kill the child outside the hospital.He refused to obey but was so scared of further punishment that he left the crying baby behind in an office building where it was found by a doctor shortly afterwards.
The doctor took the baby back to the hospital and reunited it with its mother.He removed the umbilical cord, administered vaccinations and then sent the family home.
Five officials were waiting for them in their living room. During the ensuing argument, the officials grabbed the baby, took it out of the house and drowned it in a paddy field in front of its parents.
The public outcry reported in the nearby metropolis of Wuhan lead to no national media attention and forced the Hubei government to pledge that it would punish the guilty officials.
Since its implementation in the early 1970's,the one-child policy has been dogged by allegations that officials force women to have abortion. The policy was introduced to ensure China could feed its people, now exceeding 1.1 billion living in 7% of the worlds arable land.
"Without taking effective measures to slow down the raid growth of its population, China would have 300 million people more than current figure," the official Xinhua news agency commented.
Punishments are supposed to include fines, loss of family allowance and medical benefits and possible demotion or dismissal.

That's awful and terribly backward thinking. I do, however, understand why China would want to keep its population increase to a minimum. This doesn't mean that its government officials should obtain the right to destroy a human life, especially one as healthy as the baby you described in your article.

Right, I have very stong opinions on this.
One, why the FUDGE cant chinese people practice safe sex. I mean, they seem to just sleep around and not give a damn what happens.
"oh, another kid? It's okay, WE'LL DROWN IT"
Second, If they don't wanna take resposibility for making a kid, get an abortion. This is one circumstance I beleive abortion is the RIGHT option. Don't wait until it's a full human being to kill it again. At the end of the day, it won't know it's being killed through an abortion, but after it's born, after it's taken it's first breaths, after it's opened its eyes and seen those first fuzzy colours, after it grabbs your finger.. after you realise how small and precious this child is, YOU WANT TO KILL IT? This is MURDER. There's not even an excuse. I mean, They could have ODed on an anesthetic or something, not put it through that traumatic experience.
There are MUCH better ways of population control.
THIS is a poor excuse for plain out manslaughter.
Its the same as saying "Oh no, not enough room in this school, let's shoot the thick ones".

The people allowing this to happen should be shot, I'll tell you that.

Did you think about the fact that people living in rural areas of China don't understand sex and practicing safe sex because of a lack of a thorough education? Also, it's not the parents' fault for their child being killed; it was government officials that asphyxiated the infant. I'm not, however, condoning the choice to or the manner of the killing. More needs to be done to show the entire population of China how to safely monitor its population fluctuation.

Well I dont mean to be stereotypical but that's a bit like claiming all the "chavs" who are popping kids out before the age of 17 haven't had any sex ed when obviously they have. I mean, Contraception is free to them throughout school and stuff yet they still choose not to use it.

I dont belive they wouldnt know about contraception.

Rural areas aren't exposed to media. Less economically developed countries like China have a high birth rate for many reasons but that fundamental reason is a lack of knowledge and understanding of contraception. We only KNOW that a condom prevents conceiving a child because we've learnt about it. People in the 19th century didn't know what a condom was.

Amy i see your point on this but actually you have to take in consederation that some religions do not alow any kind of birth contorl pills,they do not believe inthem,thast why so many christian families have lots of kids.
The parents did not actually do anything,they wanted the baby,but the Government officals didnt want to keep it.

Our clas had a long talk about this and we saw couple of things
1)Why should the baby get punished for parents mistakes?
2)Why not let the parents rase the baby and give it for adoption later?
3)If the baby survived the injection ,it is actually a miracle baby which should be able to live
4)From the moment that person is born they have rights

To Nina the actually before they would weight both babies and the one tha weights more would be given to parents.But now what they do,for the second baby they have to pay a fine of so many dollars.OR they get thier allowence taken away.

I can see why China wants to control its population. I don't think some people stop to consider what having a large family will have on the world... But it doesn't justify drowning a baby once it's born. Abort it, or, even better, start telling rural people about safe sex! It was murder, what those people did.

They WEIGHED them? Talk about trivializing the decision.

But Aleks I have to say I completely agree with you.

I personally think that the logical way to resolve the situation while sticking to the One Child Policy would have been to give the baby to a family who wanted children but couldn't have any.

But isn't it true that not everyone has rights in China?

After all we have to take into consideration here that China is a Dictatorship. At the end of the day the law is the law. If you don't follow the rules under that kind of government, people die. It's not fair and it's not right but people living in these countries know that it happens and should, as a result, be more aware of the laws they have to follow - however unfair they are - and resolve to keep to them as a result.

1] Because it's easier to blame it on a child that can't defend itself - which is just harsh.
2] The child may get emotionally attached to the parents which will majorly affect the child once it is seperated from the parents.
3] Some people just don't give a s**t since it's a baby - Who ever gets an abortion is a murderer, you make me sick :D
4] Unfortunatly they can't fight for their rights at that time but fortunalty for them, we can :)

I really don't like this topic. It upsets me. Although I will say, we have NO control over what China does. They live differently than we do. They were raised differently and taught differently. They are still human, yes, but live a totally different life than we do. I have to say I disagree with what they do, but I can't change that. We can't change someones home just because it doesn't suit our tastes. If the people in China needed a change, they should change it. For us to judge them is wrong. That's like me hating the people in Korea because they eat dog. Or Hindu's getting upset because we eat cows. I was taught that eating cows was great, but a dog was my best friend.


I'm not saying what they are doing is acceptable. I'm just saying something that should be thought about. I absolutely can't stand to think that they could do such a thing. Taking lives is one of the worst things we can do. We are humans, though, and as humans we make mistakes. We learn from them too...

Benny you are right,but wen i said adoption,i meant like let they have the baby for couple of months,till its little bit bigger,so it will be easier on the airplanes

Then they can have sex as much as they like and no more babies, no need for contraception, and one kid per family.
