View Full Version : [WEEK 1] - Proposition 'H8TE'
DitchtheDebate

So it has recently been announced that 'Proposition 8', a body of legislation that makes it illegal for gay and lesbian couples to receive the same rights as a straight couple, which also states that no same-sex couples are legally allowed to marry, has been passed in California, United States.
What do you think about Proposition 8? Should same-sex relationships receive the same rights as mixed-sex? Should they be banned from marriage?
Tell us what you think in this weeks debate! Post your comments below.

When I found out I cried a little.
We have an African-American President and no real civil rights for same-sex couples.
As they are saying all over the internet;
Thank you. I am now a second class citizen.

I know
Barrack needs to start showing why he was voted and put a stop to it.
Otherwise I'll go over and give his booty some kickin XD

This is no different than to racism, why should we be denied rights just because of our lifestlye?
Anyway, they can just go to another state to get married. You can't stop us, we'll find a way to provail!
Ugh, i wanted to move there too....no point now, meah SPREAD THE GAY!

Ohhh, you lot are silly!
This is how it breaks down: Barack is the FACE of the people, but he doesn't have absolute reign. He can't just say "gays can marry" and make it so. The House of Representatives and the Senate have to vote to pass it as law. There is a system of checks and balances, because America is a DEMOCRACY: we have to vote, we didn't make Barack our KING.
BUT BUT: two OTHER states, Conneticut and Massachusets, have allowed Same-Sex MARRIAGE on the same ballot:] So maybe we lost Cali, but we did gain two other states in the process! LET'S HEAR IT!
States with Legalized S-S unions:
Conneticut
New Jersey
New York
Massachusets
...and we're battling for California. In 2008, California's Supreme Court ruled that banning the marriages was discriminatory, but with the Prop 8 passed recently...it's still up in the air.

We have a Queen and even she has no power towards the law!!
When there is a bill passed through it gets passed onto her, if she does not like it she can deny it and not sign it but if it gets passed through a second time she HAS to sign it.
I think that's how it works, i got told this like donkey years ago LOL

Urgh..haha...I think we all know where I stand on this one.
But just to restate:
California said that same-sex marriages were illegal.
Since when is it the state of California's decision to decide who gets to marry, and who doesn't?
Since when is it even a discussion?
It's one of those things that shouldn't even be a discussion.
Like whether of different colored skin should be able to drink from the same fountain as others.
The only battle ground that I can see where there should be any possible conflict is in churches.
Because 'marriage', in the US, is a piece of paper that says two people are together.
No one EVER voted whether or not heterosexuals could get married.
No one EVER said that they couldn't get married in California.
My theory:
If you don't like it, then don't have one.
Everyone is entitled to their opinions.
I'm sorry that there are people live life styles that MAY offend you.
I mean..I thought I was allowed to do that.
I mean this is America..."land of the free"...right?

It is ridiculous right?!
I just don't understand why a state would choose something for someone else
It like they're trying to pick out their own lives for them and point out that doing this is "wrong"
Getta grip!
It's 21st Century and everything's changed now
California stop living in the past
They need to start realising that they aren't the controller here.
We are.
Our lives. Our rules.
I think no one should question marriage.
Love is love.
Straight, Gay Or Bi...
We are all people.
And no one and no country/state should EVER judge that.
when i heard about this i was apalled.
so right this very second, im adding thousands of gays through myspace and will be messaging each and every one of them to sign against Prop 8.
I signed against it when i was contacted about it.
Im sure everyone i get in touch with will be supportive.

I think everyone with sense knows that this is a hateful and ridiculous law. As someone else has probably already said: Land of the free? Fat chance.
At the end of the day, it shouldn't matter what sex, race, age you are.
Love is love, and you can't help who you fall in love with!
