hey well im 17 weeks and one day pregnant.
seems to be going really fast it only seems like yesterday i found out.
i don't know how much yopu guys know about pregnancy like tests scans and everything, so heres what i have had done so far.
dec 17- found out i was pregant after being 47 days late from my last period.
dec 19- had doctors appointment where i had to take a urine sample and they sent it off to be tested at the local hospital lab.
dec 27th- test came back positive from the lab, they put me in touch with a midwife who phoned me back that day to arrange my booking in appontment
dec 30th-- Booking in apponitment- is just loads of paperwork midwife wants to know all about my medical history and my mum's, father to be dosen't really have much say which is a shame really, poor mark just sat there,
midwife took blood to test for my blood type and iron deficenies.
I got a letter saying i had low iron and had to start taking iron tablets. you also have to take folic acid everyday to ensure your baby is getting enough nutrients.
Jan 23rd- had my 12 week dating scan. which was amazing seeing my baby for the first time made it all seem real, the size of my baby is only 53mm.
feb 10th- Triple Test- the triple test is when the midwife takes your blood they send it off to determine the risk your baby has at getting spine bifida, down's syndrome and something else(more common in asian couples).
feb 18th- recieved phone call from midwife saying i had high risk of baby haveing downs syndrome i have 1 in 194 dosen't sound too much though as im 19 it should be 1 in 2300. so i started getting really worried. midwife said i had to go to maternity unit to see consultant.
consultant offered me an amniocentesis which is where they stick a needle in your stomach to withdraw the amniotic fluid(what the baby is swimming in) they do this under an ultrasound as not to harm the baby. problem the risk of miscarrying is 1 in 100 so i refused to have this done. if my baby has down's i will keep it the amnio would not change my mind.
coming up
6th march- i have my 20 weeks scan though i will be 18 weeks. consultant brought it forward, there is a 60% chance they can determine if the baby has downs syndrome its alot more safer. they check all the babys organs to make sure its developing properly. they check all is okay and can also determin sex . eek can;t wait
well thats about it for now .
